History of Alger Park / Ash Creek

Alger Park / Ash Creek is made up of several subdivisions, but the two largest are Alger Park and Woodcrest.  The first to be built was the Alger Park subdivision, which was developed by real estate developer and US Congressman Bruce Alger.  The majority of homes Alger Park were built between 1951 and 1955.  Development in the Woodcrest subdivision located on the east side of the neighborhood also started in the early 1950s, but most homes in Woodcrest were built between 1955 and 1960.  Development in Ash Creek Estates, a smaller subdivision of larger lots on the south side, also began in the early 1950s and was completed by the late 1960s.  Today, a small number of newer homes have been built on lots where the original homes were torn down, but the vast majority of homes in the neighborhood are still original.
